Red Flag at Bristol Motor Speedway
The completion of the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway will take place on Monday after officials postponed the race after the third red flag of the day because of rain. But Monday's forecast isn't a whole lot better. Rain in the morning and colder with a high of only 41.
Only 204 of the 500 laps had been completed when crews were told to pack up for the day. When the green flag flies on Monday Kyle Larson will have the lead. He had led 74 laps on the half mile track before the rain caused the third and final stoppage. Starting next to him will be Denny Hamlin with Paul Menard in third. But looming in fourth place will be Kyle Busch who started the day from the pole and was winding his way thru the field. Busch has led 16 laps so far.
Ryan Blaney appeared to have the car to beat in the early going. He led 100 laps before a five-car crash ended his day. Another fast car taken out early was the Number 9 of Chase Elliott. He had the second fastest car in final practice but he was caught up in a nine-car wreck on just the fifth lap.
Hoping to complete the race before rain arrived the start time was moved an hour earlier. The plan came up short. Monday's start time is set for 1:00 pm.
