A lot of people know former Buffalo Sabre Rob Ray as an enforcer.  He's remembered from some of his fights.  But most people who have met him, know him differently.

Rob Ray is getting inducted into the Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame tonight.  They will be holding a special ceremony before the game against Nashville.  Doors will open at 5:00 pm and they're encouraging people to be in their seats by 6:00 pm.  The ceremony will start promptly at that time.  There will be a large number of alumni in attendance.  See the list of them here.  Plus, they will be giving away a commemorative pin set, and more.

If you only remember Rob Ray as a fighter or a fierce hockey player, there's a good chance you've never met him.

I was lucky enough to meet Rob a few years ago at an event that he did with our radio station.  We were at a cell phone store.  He was making an appearance and we were advertising it.  For two hours I didn't stop laughing.

He is the kind of guy that is a huge star that tons of people know but when you meet him, he doesn't give off that vibe.  That was the first time (and only time) we met but it felt like I had known him forever.  He definitely wasn't afraid to give you a hard time.

For me, it was a joke about hunting.  He was deer hunting that morning in North Collins which was my neck of the woods.  I was still a little taken back that I was talking to a Sabres legend and completely misspoke.  I asked if he had caught anything.

"Well, it's kind of hard to catch anything without shooting it first" he responded.  He was right.  I was stupid for saying it.  But man was he quick with that response.  As soon as I said it, I wished that I could have taken it back.

Congrats to Rob on his induction.  It is well deserved.
