For many kids and parents in Western New York, the thought of heading back to school is still an upcoming idea; for some other families, it is already a reality.

While the majority of kids in Western New York will head back to school after Labor Day, there are several schools that welcome back students before the end of August.

Schools In Western New York That Return This Week

REACH Academy Charter School is always one of the first schools to reopen for the fall. They officially opened their doors and welcomed back students yesterday.

Today, the students at Nichols School are set to head back to school. The 5th through 12th-grade private school is the 2nd school to begin classes in Western New York.

On Wednesday, Primary Hall Charter School joins the list of schools open and welcoming back students.

Students at the Charter School for Applied Technologies will head back to class on Thursday, August 28th. The Charter School for Applied Technologies is the last school in Western New York to open before the long Labor Day weekend.

Big Changes Ahead Of School In Western New York

There will be a couple of changes for students and families this year in Western New York.

The biggest change this year is going to be the ban on cell phones during the school day. Under New York State law, all schools have to have a plan in place to adhere to the cell phone ban at schools, which must be implemented at the start of the school year.

The other big change is that every student in school will get a free breakfast and lunch, no matter what their families' income is.
