
Seasonal Fire Ban Ending In New York State
There is a seasonal ban in New York State that is about to come to an end. However, lawmakers and officials still want residents to take precautions.
The spring is here and the Memorial Day holiday is only a few weeks away and marks the unofficial start to the summer and camping season!
In New York State, that also means that many homeowners and property owners will be doing yard work and cleanup and may want to burn some brush.

As we start to see the rains end and the sun shine, it is time to get those sticks and brush cleaned up.
What IS The New York State Burn Ban?
In New York State, we know very well the devastation and smoke that a forest or wildfire can cause. Those who live close to New Jersey have witnessed the recent wildfires. New York State sets a burn ban from March to May to prevent the threat of an outbreak of fire in what is typically a season filled with dry sticks, leaves and dead grasses that fuel those fires.
The burn ban in New York State lasts for a few weeks!
When Does The New York Burn Ban End?
According to the DEC, the annual brush burn ban will end in a few days.
"New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Acting Commissioner Amanda Lefton today announced the annual statewide ban prohibiting residential brush burning begins March 16 and runs through May 14. Since 2009, DEC has enforced the annual brush burning ban to prevent wildfires and protect communities and first responders during heightened conditions for wildfires".
That being said, there is always a chance that New York could extend the ban based on conditions and they ask that you be responsible when burning anything outdoors!
