Senior Airman Sheila Szymczak Is This Week’s Hometown Hero
It’s time once again for our Hometown Hero, brought to you by Batavia Downs Gaming with help from our friends at WNY Heroes who help us with our nominations every week. This week, our Hometown Hero is from Buffalo, NY. It’s United States Air Force Senior Airman Sheila Szymczak!
While she is originally from Fort Lauderdale, FL, her family moved to Buffalo when she was young.
Sheila’s nomination came from her husband and says that she joined the Air Force in April of 2014. He describes her determination to stay in the military saying that she had to fight through a broken foot through boot camp. She also refused to give up on college and took online classes while over seas to get her degree.
She spent 6 months over seas in the middle east from October 2016-2017. She is currently working with intelligence in the Air Force.
For her strength and determination, we want to say thank you to Sheila and name her our Hometown Hero of the week!
