Here in New York State we are used to a variety of crazy weather and, in some cases, strong storms. But there is a drill that is taking place worldwide on Thursday.

There is one thing that is for certain, when an earthquake happens in New York State, it is big news. There have been a few recently and many say that it is only a matter of time before a large earthquake happens considering that much of New York State is on a fault line.

This year's International ShakeOut Day is October 19, when millions of people worldwide will participate in earthquake drills at work, school, or home!

New York City is ahead of the game and actually has a plan according to their website.

Identify safe places in each room of your home. A safe place can be under a solid piece of furniture and away from windows, hanging objects or tall furniture that could fall on you.
Prepare your home by securing bookcases and other top-heavy objects to the wall, and store large and heavy items on lower shelves.
Do not hang large pictures or mirrors above sofas or other places where people may sit or sleep.
