Should Schools Eliminate Teaching Cursive?

The theories of teaching kids are constantly changing. Now it looks like as least one state is changing it's opinion about handwriting.
Indiana is one state that has decided there are more important things to learn than the stylized version of handwriting. printing will still be taught as kids learn to read and write. Is cursive necessary? I think it is at least necessary when it comes to an individuals signature. But, in today's world of text, tweet and facebook, the art of cursive writing seems to have been left behind.
