These New York Airports Have The Most Flight Cancelations On The 4th Of July

Millions of people are packing bags right now with hopes of traveling to see loved ones on the 4th of July. If you're flying out of New York, you might want to be aware of these specific airports.

Why do airports experience cancellations in the first place?

Sometimes the cancellation isn't the airport's fault. They could be caused by a number of things. Maybe it's a mechanical issue with a plane. I don't know about you, but I'd always rather be on the ground when there's a mechanical issue. I'm always grateful when they find these things BEFORE we get in the air. Maybe it's a weather issue. It's one of the major things that could affect a flight. While it's beautiful in your departure city, the weather might be horrible where you're supposed to land. That could throw off a whole day.

Then, when it's a holiday weekend, because they're trying to move so many people across the country and there are so many flights going out, a cancellation of one flight could have a domino effect on the rest.

The best plan of action is to always be patient. They're doing their best to get you to your destination and they want to do it safely.

These airports in New York will give you the highest risk of cancellations

A study done by Rightway Parking analyzed more than 2 million departures and  arrivals across the last five Independence Day travel periods to identify the airports and airlines that have the highest rates of delays and cancellations on holidays.

Travelers at Newark Liberty had the highest Fourth of July cancellation rate, not just in New York State, but also in the country with 3.7% of flights canceled. Now, that still means that 96.3% were NOT canceled. LaGuardia ranked second (3.3%) and JFK was third (2.7%). They were the top 3 airports when it comes to cancellations nationwide. The study also found that nearly 1 in 4 Fourth of July flights nationwide (24.7%) were delayed, while only 2% were canceled.
