Social Media Post Confuses People About Village Of Akron 4th Of July Celebrations

There was a misleading social media post that has confused some people regarding the 4th of July Events in the town of Akron. Here's what happened.

An independent celebration getting canceled is what confused everyone

The good news about social media is that it's a quick way to spread information. The bad news about social media is that if that information isn't true, misinformation gets spread quickly, also. That was the case today when a poster on social media confused a lot of people.

Earlier today a social media post went out that appeared to show that the 4th of July events in the town of Akron were canceled for the weekend due to permit requirements.

That was not the case.

That post was for a local private business, Akron Community Pharmacy, that was canceling their event. It was NOT for the entire town's event.

In a letter from the Akron Town Clerk, they clarified that the event is still going on.

"Due to the misinformation that has been circulating on social media, we would like to clarify that the planned fireworks on July 3, 2026 and Parade/festivities in the Village of Akron/Town of Newstead on July 4 2026 will proceed as scheduled. The cancellation of an event hosted by a local private business, Akron Community Pharmacy, has no effect on events planned by the Akron/Newstead Celebration Committee." - Jayne Deine, RMC, Akron Village Clerk
