Niagara Falls Planning A Stunning Display For America’s 250th Anniversary
This weekend is a big one for the United States. We are celebrating our 250th anniversary, and to commemorate the occasion, Niagara Falls is going to be putting on a beautiful display of red, white, and blue.
The Falls are almost always lit up in a different color
It's not uncommon to see Niagara Falls illuminated in different colors when special occasions occur. We've seen them go green for St. Patrick's Day, lit up the colors of the teams playing in the World Cup, and even blue when a new prince was born.
It's all part of the Niagara Falls Illumination board. It's a full board of people made up of representatives from the City of Niagara Falls Ontario, City of Niagara Falls, New York, Ontario Power Generation Inc., New York Power Authority, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and The Niagara Parks Commission. They've financed and operated the “illumination of Niagara Falls” since 1925. They review and approve requests for specific causes every month.
They're putting on a special light show to commemorate the US's 250th Anniversary
Starting tonight (July 2nd) and running through July 6th, visitors will have a chance to see The Falls illuminated in red, white, and blue starting at 10 p.m. each evening. It will also be complemented by themed fireworks displays that will be synchronized with American-themed music and amplified on both the Canadian side and Niagara Falls State Park on the U.S. side.
