Get ready to see the price at the pump jump once again. New Yorkers can expect to start paying more at the pumps as producers have made the switch to the "Summer Blend" of gas.

Gas Prices Set To Increase In New York State

According to AAA, the current average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas in New York State is around $4.36. That is up .25 cents from last week and up around $1.25 from last year.

The price is expected to increase over the next couple of weeks as well, as gas producers have to shift to the "summer blend" of gas.

What Is "Summer Blend" Gas?

Gas producers and gas stations have to switch over to the "summer blend" of gas every year as the weather gets warmer. Gas producers have to make the switch starting on May 1st, while gas stations have to be switched over by June 1st.

"Summer Blend" gas is a fuel formulation required by the EPA that helps reduce smog-forming evaporative emissions and is less combustible in warmer weather in gas tanks.

It costs between 10 and 15 cents per gallon more to produce the "summer blend" of gas, which producers usually pass along to consumers. You can expect to start seeing that increase at the pumps later this month and throughout the summer.

The "summer blend" of gas is used between June 1st and September 15th.
