The holiday season is here and with Christmas Day quickly approaching, if you're anything like me, then you haven't even begun your shopping yet.

It's funny to think about how much something as simple as shopping has changed over the years. This used to be the way most people would Christmas shop.

It's the most wonderful time of the year!.. but maybe not so much for your wallet. The National Retail Foundation is predicting shoppers to spend at least $40 more this Christmas from last years.. so how much does the average shopper spend?

Today's the big day -- the shopping extravaganza known as Black Friday, the day on which stores around the nation offer door-busting prices so low that otherwise-rational consumers take temporary leave of their senses, shake off their tryptophan haze and rush to the nearest mall at ungodly hours of the night. This morning listening to Clay and Dale, I heard them mention that some retailers like Wal-Mart are getting a jump on Black Friday this year.  Instead of the typical midnight or 3am, 4am start in to the holiday shopping season, they’re opening doors on Thanksgiving night with special sales.

Things are going a lot different this season than most Sabres fans figured they would.  I'm one of them.  With all additions to the lineup, the upgrades at First Niagara Center including the new locker room I guess we figured the Sabres were on their way to winning it all.  Hasn't worked out that way.
