It’s time for this week’s Hometown Hero, brought to you by Keller Chevrolet and Batavia Downs Casino. This week, I’m doing something a little different. This week’s Hometown Hero nomination stuck out because it’s not a soldier. This week’s Hometown Hero is Nicholas Sanchez.

So if he’s not a soldier, why is he getting to be the Hometown Hero? Nicholas currently resides at Fort Stewart, Ga. His father, Miguel Sanchez, is currently serving in the United States Army. His mother Tara also served in the Army but got out after she had Nicholas. This is the nomination I received from his uncle a few months back:

Yes, service men and women deserve all the respect and admiration, but the children of these men and women sometimes get overlooked. I am nominating Nicholas because when his dad is off fighting for our freedoms, he is missing time with his dad. Nicholas is giving up dinner time, bedtime, baseball games, school concerts and more with his dad. These children deserve just as much respect as their parents since they give the most – time with their parents.

So today we are giving a shout out to all the children of servicemen and -women across the country for giving up their time with their moms and dads. And congratulations to Nicholas Sanchez. Thank you for letting us have your dad.

If you would like to nominate someone who is currently serving our country or has served in the past, click the button at WYRK.com. We will choose a new Hometown Hero each Friday. If their name is chosen, we will not only feature them on WYRK.com, but we’ll be sure to thank them for their service on the air and dedicate the first song on Noon Tunes to them.
