Western New York Landmark Being Sold After 65 Years

Back in 1957, Irving Cohen and his wife who he met in Rochester several years earlier, bought the Transit Drive-In, located at 6655 S Transit Road in Lockport, from a group of Buffalo businessmen.  It has remained in family control for 65 years ever since.

Now, the Cohen family has announced they are selling the Western New York landmark to Dipson Theatres. The good news is, that the drive-in will remain in the hands of a local company.  Dipson Theaters is an independent theater company that's based in Williamsville and operates several small theaters including; The Amherst Theatre, Chautauqua Mall Cinemas, and the Eastern Hills Cinema among others.

The Transit Drive-In Theater has been managed by three generations of the Cohen family. The drive-in has been managed by Rick Cohen for the past 35 years and actually has been being run by Dipson Theaters since March when they took control of operations under a management agreement.

The Drive-in was one of the first entertainment facilities in Western New York that was able to reopen during the COVID-19 pandemic, offering limited capacity concerts, hosting drive-in graduation ceremonies, and of course, showing movies and providing us a distraction during a difficult time.

Don't worry about the Transit Drive-In going away, Dipson Theaters has said that they plan on continuing on operating the facility as a drive-in theater.
