New York Trooper Cars Getting A Massive New Look
For years you've been on the lookout for a blue and gold car as you drive down the thruway. Starting this year, some of those cars are going to look different.
Get ready to watch for gray in 2025.
The New York State Troopers have announced that their classic blue and gold cars are slowly going to be going away and will be replaced by a new gray and gold scheme.
They call it a nod to tradition, a step to the future.
"This design ensures our vehicles remain highly visible and instantly recognizable to the public."
When they first started, trooper cars were black and white. They didn't move to the blue and gold scheme until the 70's.
Gray has been one of the official colors (along with purple) of the New York State Police for decades now. If you have ever visited the NYSP Academy in Albany you may have noticed a statue called "The Gray Rider" positioned right at the entrance. It's there to honor the men and women who have worn the gray uniform of the New York State Police throughout the years.
Blue and yellow are two of the branding colors that represent New York State on its flag.
While you could start seeing them on the roads as soon as this year, don't expect them all to change at once. They will begin to incorporate the new look as cars become outdated and new ones replace them.
I love the new look, but wish that they could have made the yellow stripe a purple one. At they very least, maybe they could have found a way to get purple decals to give a nod to their signature purple tie.
