We went from e-mail to MySpace to Facebook and now Twitter seems to be the most popular way of social communication. Twitter users send out over 200 million tweets a day. That’s more than double from the year before.

On July 15, 2006, 224 Tweets were sent. Total. Today, users send that many Tweets in less than a tenth of a second.

The most active time on Twitter is 10-11 pm.

The man who founded Twitter was Jack Dorsey and he was the first person to send a tweet. The message was “just setting up my twttr”

Twitter was originally spelled TWTTR. The vowels were added to make it easier to pronounce.

Astronaut T J Creamer was the first to send a tweet from space from the International Space Station on January 22nd, 2010.

It took Twitter 16 months to reach 600,000 registered accounts. As of last year there were 300-million Twitter accounts.
