Smoke could be seen for miles from a boat fire in the Niagara River early Wednesday evening.  A father and son on board when the fire broke out were rescued from the cold waters of the east branch of the river between Grand Island and North Tonawanda's Tonawanda Island.  The two from the Town of Tonawanda escaped unhurt.

The cabin cruiser was completely consumed by the fire as it burned to the water line.  Fire crews from both sides of the river responded to put out the blaze.  A YouTube video showed the fire was so intense there wasn't much left.
