How many times have you gone to the grocery store in a rush? You think that you’ll be able to buzz through by going through the “express lane” only to be stuck there for an extra 10 minutes for checkout.  It happens to me all the time.  But Walmart is hoping to speed up the checkout process with a new app.

It’s a scan and go app that goes right on your iPhone.  Walmart invited some of its employees and their friends to try the app out as a preliminary test.  The idea is to lower costs and make the shopping experience better for their customers.

The app would allow the customer to scan their own items and pay quicker at a special checkout center before they go.  According to Reuters, Walmart spends nearly $12 million to pay their cashiers (and in my experience, they still never have enough on duty).  If all goes well, shoppers wouldn’t have to wait in those long lines anymore.  They could pay with just a tap of their phone.
