White Christmas Looking Likely For Buffalo and Western New York
It's hard to even fathom that we're just over two weeks away from Christmas Day. It feels like 2022 has flown by and the holidays are going in the blink of an eye.
Most of Western New York is lit up in Christmas lights and holiday decorations. The snow is gone from the lake effect snowstorm from November, but that hasn't put a damper on the festivities like company parties and holiday shopping.
Will we still get a white Christmas though? It may seem like we don't have a good chance of that this year, but the opposite is actually true.
The weather in December will be on the colder side, as temperatures will be in the 30's and even 20's for much of the month.
The National Weather Service put out their updated chances for a white Christmas this week and if you want snow for the holiday, you're happy.
Western New York had around a 60 percent chance for an inch or more of snow on the ground for Christmas Day.
Upstate New York has a 75 percent chance of a white Christmas, and potentially even higher for the northern parts of the state.
Last year, we did not get a white Christmas but in 2020, Buffalo and Western New York got quite a bit of snow, which started falling late on Christmas Eve and lasted through much of Christmas Day.
I don't like snow in January or February (certainly not March or April), but snow during the holidays makes me feel like a kid again. Many people are rooting for this forecast to hold true this Christmas.
