I currently live in South Buffalo, so the nearest park to me at the moment is Cazenovia, but I grew up in North Amherst, and there were many different (nearby) options for parks.

The two big parks everyone seems to talk about in Amherst/North Tonawanda is Ellicott Creek Park and Ellicott Island Bark Park, which is that small island park off Niagara Falls Boulevard. It's where dogs run freely!

However, there's another park that is beautiful, always has plenty of space, and is always empty.

It's West Canal Park.

West Canal Park is located on Tonawanda Creek Road in North Tonawanda (near Wheatfield), and is honestly my favorite hidden gem park in Western New York.

I used to go there with my dad to eat lunch on one of the many picnic tables when I was growing up and to be honest, the park hasn't changed much. It features a ton of space to perhaps run around with the family dog or play a game of football.

The park is also next to Tonawanda Creek and has the West Canal Marina, where boats are docked.

Sometimes there are birthday parties or family reunions going on, but other than that, this park is quiet. It also has two playgrounds if you're looking for that.

I love going to the park and some of that is because it's so quiet, so maybe it won't be now!
