The first big snowfall of the season for most Western New Yorker's will take place on Monday and into Tuesday morning.

According to WIVB, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from 8 a.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday for much of WNY. The watch goes into effect at 11 a.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday for the southern tier.

5-9 inches of snow is expected, higher totals inland from the city.

The early morning hours will start as a rain-snow mix but switch to snow by the time daylight comes.

A coating is expected through the morning but the heavy snowfall will be in the afternoon through Monday night.

Lake effect snow showers are possible for areas south and northeast of Buffalo on Tuesday and even Wednesday, after the cold front pushed through.

Get those shovels out and be ready for travel delays. Make sure to use those winter driving skills.
