5 Legendary Food Brands From Western New York
Buffalo has a lot more going for it than the Bills and wings, my friend.
Have you ever looked at the label of one of your favorite foods to see where it was made? Trust me, a lot of people don’t. I’m one of those nerds (or weirdos, your pick) who loves to know where the food I’m eating comes from.
I always knew that Buffalo is one of the best cities for delicious food. We’ve been named over and over again one of the top food cities in the world. But did you know you don’t have to travel to Western New York to have a taste of Buffalo? After scouring through my fridge, pantry, and freezer, I was absolutely shocked to see how many of the iconic brands I keep in stock in my kitchen either originated or are made right here in Buffalo, New York.
Just think - people all over the world have drooled over, scarfed down, and had seconds on meals or condiments that are made right here in Western New York - and they didn’t even know it. Even more shocking- many locals don’t realize it either! Who would’ve thought?
Get ready to have some hometown pride as we take a look at these legendary food brands from right here in the good ol’ Buffalo area.
General Mills
Buffalo is “the city that smells like Cheerios,” and we’re proud of it. The General Mills factory in Buffalo has been in production since 1904 and started baking those iconic o’s here in 1941. Personally, my favorite days are when you can smell them cooking up Lucky Charms - it IS magically delicious.
Weber’s Mustard
The world has never been the same since horseradish and mustard got together and had a baby named Weber’s. Joseph Weber created this famous condiment in Buffalo back in 1922, and ever since we now know what a hot dog should *really* taste like.
Sahlen’s Hot Dogs
Well, speaking of hot dogs…the Sahlen family has been sprucing up your family barbeque since 1869 from right here in Buffalo.
Original Pizza Logs
Yup, your favorite thing to whip up after school as a kid (or after a late night out as an adult) was invented in Niagara Falls in 1992.
D’Avolio’s Olive Oil & Balsamic Vinegar
All of my foodie friends can attest to Buffalo’s-own D’Avolio’s being the only oil and vinegar brand they keep in their cabinet since 2010.
