Get ready for eggs to get even more expensive than they already are! There has been another bird flu outbreak in New York State and this time 101,000 birds are affected. They are all ducks and they are expected to have to kill all of them.
People are fearing for their health as well.
Last week, a New York State farm had a confirmed outbreak that will affect on 101,000 birds. The bird that was affected was a poultry duck bird. No word on what other birds were affected on the farm. Of course, the bird flu outbreak directly correlates with the price of eggs in New York State and they are getting pretty pricey by the day. Unfortunately, we are not even to 'peak' problem season with the bird flu.
Detections are higher in the fall and spring, because we continue to see wild birds spreading virus as they migrate to their seasonal homes. APHIS continues to work closely with State animal health officials on surveillance efforts to look for the virus in commercial, backyard, and wild birds", according to the USDA website.
Since 2022, the USDA collects data that is pretty informative on their website regarding bird flu outbreaks.
What is a human contracts the bid flu? What are the symptoms of the bird flu in humans? Can you get the bird flu from eating eggs?
"The chance of infected poultry or eggs entering the food chain is extremely low because of the rapid onset of symptoms in poultry as well as the safeguards USDA has in place, which include testing of flocks, and Federal inspection programs", says the USDA. All you have to do is not eat raw eggs.
