A Thousand Horses Release New Single, ‘Southernality’ [LISTEN]

A Thousand Horses have selected the title track of their latest album, Southernality, as their new single.

"Southernality" is a country-rock anthem dedicated to the band's homeland. Its lyrics are filled with visions of the South, from belt buckles to cowboy boots to dirt roads.

"Yes sir, yes ma'am, talk with a drawl / Ain't much for runnin', 'less we're runnin' from the law / We like our ladies sweet like we like sweet tea / And we know how to treat 'em, it's our Southernality," the song begins. The chorus includes the lines, "Laid back, way back, simple Southernality / Flag flyin', sun shinin', red, white, blue and free / Old ball cap, pair of worn out jeans / Boots and a buckle, that's how we lean / Laid back, way back, simple Southernality."

A Thousand Horses released Southernality, their debut album, last summer. They recorded the project at Zac Brown‘s Southern Ground studio with producer Dave Cobb, who has also worked with Jason Isbell and Chris Stapleton.

“[Cobb] loved that place, and he wanted to work there,” lead singer Michael Hobby tells The Boot of Southern Ground. “He’s a vibe guy. If you’ve ever been in that studio, it’s a great hang and a great vibe. So we picked it to go in, and we were in there three weeks. It lived up to all its expectations. It’s an incredible place.”

The four-piece band -- made up of Hobby, Bill Satcher, Zach Brown and Graham Deloach -- is currently on the road with Jason Aldean. Southernality is available for download via iTunes and Amazon.
