Amherst Stiffens Fee For Snow Covered Sidewalks

Here's a little follow up to a story we brought you on Tuesday about clearing your sidewalks of snow.  The Town of Amherst has decided to stiffen the penalty for not shoveling the sidewalks in front of your home/business.   If you fail to clear your sidewalk within 24 hours of snow fall, the town will now send a private contractor to clear the area, then bill you later.  The old fine, which was rarely enforced would cost residents 35 bucks....and $250.00 for businesses.  Under the new rule...the fine is anywhere from $150.00-$450.00!
