The Best Treats For Summer Vacation In Western New York
Remember how great it was to be on summer vacation as a kid? You had the whole summer in front of you with warm weather to soak up, and if you were lucky, some incredible treats in the freezer.
We didn't get a lot of treats as kids
When we were young, summer felt like it was endless. We didn't have back-to-school commercials until August. The weather felt like it was perfect every day. We would play outside from the second we slurped up the last bit of milk in our cereal bowl until it was time to come in and get cleaned up for bed again.
And we would look forward to treats. If it wasn't at your house (because your parents would never let you eat that much sugar) it was at your friend's house. It felt like they always had the good ones that your mom or dad wouldn't buy. But we would only get one, maybe two, throughout the day. That was it. So we had to make the most of them.
The Schwann's Truck was always what we waited for
When we were kids, we didn't live in a village where an ice cream truck would go. Instead, we had a truck that would come to our house to sell boxes of ice cream treats. Sure, they had other stuff in that truck, but for us, it was all about the ice cream novelties. My mom would always get the push ups. They were like frozen yogurt treats that came in a toilet paper roll (it wasn't really a toilet paper roll, it was just that shape) and had a stick to push it up as you ate it. It was really good, and my mom liked them because they didn't really leak that much.
I asked you what your favorite was on social media, and here are some of the suggestions that you came up with.
