Have you had a chance to slow down and enjoy the summer yet? If you haven't, you're going to want to plan some time to do that. When you're a kid, summer feels like it will last forever. But summer flies by in Western New York when you're an adult. If you're hoping to feel like a kid again, here are some things to do that will help you out.

Take a road trip

My family just got back from a really long road trip. It's the second-longest one we've ever taken. We started in Boise, Idaho, and drove all the way back to Buffalo. We ate fast food the whole time, bought snacks for the truck while we were on the road, slept in hotels, swam in the pools, checked out radio stations from all over the country, and just enjoyed each other's company (in between car naps).

It was just like the trips we took when we were kids. We used to drive all over the place with my parents. We almost never flew anywhere for vacations. So this trip gave me that summertime nostalgic feel that we used to get as kids.

The best part about a road trip is that it doesn't have to be far. You can take a day road trip and make some of the same memories.

Some of these things can only be done in the summer

One of the things that makes this list so special is that many of the items on the list can only be done in the summer. In Western New York, that time is extremely limited. Before you know it, kids will be getting ready to head back to school and it will all be over. So now is the time to make those memories while you can.

Use this list as if it's a bucket list and see how many of them you can cross off before the leaves begin to fall again. Road trips are just one thing that can make you feel nostalgic. Here is a list of 29 more fun things to do.
