Most people say that when you get older, you normally don't regret the things you've done in life, it's the things that you don't do that you regret.  So I'm trying to expand my horizons.  I'm trying to do things that I've never done before.  This week, that mindset took me to the Buffalo Zoo.

I've always been a huge animal advocate.  I love them.  For years when my kids were little we were members at the Buffalo Zoo.  I used to love to walk them around for the day and see all the cool animals.

One that I hadn't really ever gotten close to was the rhino.  So I was super pumped when we reached out to them and they invited me to have an up close encounter with George, Tashi, her calf Monica and their handler, Joe.

It honestly was one of the coolest things I've ever done.

These really are some very large, very beautiful animals.  Joe was incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about them and it showed in how he treated them.  We talked a lot about the problem that poaching has created for the rhino.  It's really very sad.  They're poached for their horns which on the black market can be worth more than gold.

But there's more that you can do to help.  If you love to bowl, and you'd like to contribute to the efforts to keep animals like George here on earth, think about attending the Buffalo Zoo's Bowling For Rhinos in August.  All proceeds directly benefit non-profit conservation organizations, such as the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, that work to protect endangered wildlife like rhinos and their habitats.

I didn't realize that you can set up these encounters too!  If you'd like to get up close to the rhinos just like I did and see how incredibly cool they are, contact The Buffalo Zoo.

Thank you so much to Rachel and Joe for making this visit possible.  It was incredible!
