Buffalo Bills Re-Sign Pivotal Special Teams Player
The offseason is underway, and the Bills have already gotten a couple of players re-signed before the start of free agency. Today, they continued with a special teams player.
The Buffalo Bills have re-signed Sam Franklin to a multi-year deal
Today, the Bills announced that they've re-signed special teams player and defensive back Sam Franklin to a 3-year deal.
Franklin came to the Bills last season from the Denver Broncos after playing for five seasons in Carolina from 2020-2024. He was a starter in all 17 of the Bills' regular season games and the two playoff games and led the special teams with 9 solo tackles.
The deal is a pretty big one for a special teams player
According to some sources, the deal is a 3-year deal worth up to $7.5 million with $5 million in the first two years. It's a pretty big number when you compare it with some on the team who are still making league minimums. For instance, linebacker Shaq Thompson was only making just over $1 million last season, according to Spotrac.
The Bills still have plenty of work to do
Free agency and the draft are still coming up, but Brandon Beane and the Bills are going to have some work to do. Last season, the Bills had a lot of players who were just on one-year deals, which means that this year, many of them are free agents who will be looking to get paid this year or will be looking for a new team to play for.
One of the biggest concerns is going to be who will protect Josh Allen. The Bills have already signed Alec Anderson to a new deal, but still have Ryan VanDemark as a restricted free agent and both Connor McGovern and David Edwards exploring free agency.
