Parents have a lot of sneaky ways of getting their toddlers to go to sleep. White noise machines, vibrating contraptions, lots of subtle bouncing and rocking…. Jeez. Can’t these kids just get to sleep?

I’m kidding (maybe). I’m an awful sleeper as an adult, and unfortunately, my two-year-old nephew seems to have inherited my poor sleeping habits. If I can get him to take a nap for at least an hour without popping out of his bedroom to see what’s going on, it’s a miracle.

I’m clearly just extremely jealous of this doting Dad who managed to woo his two-year-old son into a sound slumber while getting a workout in at the same time.

Oh, and by a workout… I mean winning the Buffalo marathon.

Lucas McAneny, 35, of Hamilton, Ontario, along with his two-year-old son, Sutton, crossed the Buffalo Marathon finish line last weekend in two hours, 33 minutes, and 32 seconds to seal their first-place finish.

Sutton wasn't asleep the whole time, though. McAneny told CBC Hamilton that he and his son spent the run chatting about the police cars, and ambulances they were passing, just like any typical father/toddler son duo.

However, to the amazement of parents all over Western New York, the toddler managed to fall fast asleep - right before his dad pushed him over the finish line.

After receiving a running stroller as a Father’s Day gift from his wife a couple of years ago, McAneny says that Sutton has been his “running buddy” ever since, and has accompanied him on “ninety percent” of his runs since the pandemic.

McAneny made an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest time running a marathon while pushing a stroller but lost out by just over two minutes. Still, I think this amazing finish is a win for Dad, Sutton, and tired parents everywhere.
