The Buffalo Sabres Make a Trade on Sunday

The talk around Buffalo lately has been nothing but the Bills, with free agency being a large storyline, but the NHL trade deadline is tomorrow at 3 pm.

The Buffalo Sabres will miss the playoffs for an 11th straight season and they will surely be sellers, with Colin Miller and Cody Eakin prime candidates to be traded away for depth.

The Sabres didn’t wait for Monday to make a trade, however.

According to Frank Seravalli, the Sabres have traded Robert Hagg to the Florida Panthers.

Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports the Sabres will receive a 6th round draft pick.

Hagg was acquired by Buffalo with a first round pick this past summer from the Philadelphia Flyers, in exchange for Rasmus Ristolainen.

Hagg is seen as a depth defenseman who is not someone who will score points for your team, but is solid in his own end and can add a veteran presence. He’s a perfect trade deadline acquisition for a contender who is looking for defensive depth on their roster.

The Sabres have now traded both Sam Reinhart and Robert Hagg to the Panthers in 8 months.

We’ll have to see what general manager Kevyn Adams does between now and tomorrow at 3 pm. Hopefully, the Sabres can add another NHL ready prospect in a trade they make.
