The New Jersey Devils have always been known as a team that plays a suffocating style of defense and Tuesday night they effectively strangled the life out of the Buffalo Sabres in a 2-0 win.

The key for the Devils is to score the first goal of the game and they did late in the 2nd period.  From there it was a matter of slowing the game down, limiting the Sabres in what they could do and it's a formula that works for the Devils.  Along the way the Devils added another goal early in the third period and from there it was an uphill battle for the Sabres, one they just didn't have an answer for.

Tuesday night's game was the first of three straight home games for the Sabres.  They host Anaheim on Thursday.
