Torrey Mitchell is congratulated on his first of two goals [Youtube][/caption]A pretty impressive win by the Buffalo Sabres over a Vancouver Canucks team fighting for a playoff spot.  Torrey Mitchell led the way with a pair of goals, Chris Stewart had a goal and an assist with a number of other great chances to score.  Goaltender Michael Neuvirth stopped 28 of 31 shots to pick up the win.  And all of a sudden this Sabres team is playing pretty well.

Strange that only one penalty was called in the entire game.  It came 29 seconds into the first period giving the Sabres the only power play chance of the game and that was it the rest of the way.  The Sabres weren't called for a single penalty.

With the NHL trading deadline coming up on Monday Thursday night's game could well have been the final game in a Sabres uniform for Mitchell, Stewart and even Neuvirth.  All 3 are unrestricted free agents at the end of the season and the Sabres may trade them away to teams gearing up for the playoffs.

It's fun to see your team win, but in the overall scheme of things it's probably not a good thing because the Sabres truly want the number one draft pick and the prize of a player that comes with it.  With the win, the last-place Sabres are now only 3 points behind the Edmonton Oilers and 4 points behind the Arizona Coyotes.

The Sabres are now off to Florida for games Saturday and Tuesday to start a five-game road trip.  Their next home game is March 14th.
