Holy cow, it’s freezing outside.

We know, we know– snow and ice are part of the package when growing up or deciding to settle in the Buffalo, New York area. There are some great things about living here in Western New York during the frigid winter months, like ski trips to Ellicottville, Buffalo Bills football, and, if we’re honest, the bragging rights of making it through the coldest months in what many feel is one of the coldest places on Earth (even though it’s not that bad).

Of course, we’ve had our fair share of bad weather over the years, but to be honest, it’s not nearly as awful as the jokes from TV and movies make it seem to be here. We’re no Hawaii, that’s for sure– but we’re also not exactly a winter vacation destination.

That being said, it’s completely okay to admit you have perma-goosebumps on your arms right now. It is NOT warm! But are these frost-bitten temperatures close to the coldest it's ever been here in the 716?

We were curious, so we took the time to analyze available National Weather Service data to see which days were the coldest on record here in Western New York…

Let’s just say, we’re doing just fine. But I would definitely recommend layering up over these next few days.

Take a chilly trip through history with us and check out which days were the most frigid we’ve seen here in Buffalo (maybe it’ll make you feel warmer!)
