A Reason Why Cole Beasley Has Yet To Sign With a Team

The Buffalo Bills made it to the AFC Divisional round last season and the AFC Championship before that, but that doesn’t mean they have kept the same roster going into 2022.

General manager Brandon Beane has been busy retooling the roster over the last two months. Many players have come into the organization as free agents, even trades, while others left via free agency or were released.

Wide receiver Cole Beasley is one of the veterans who was cut from the roster in March. Beasley’s release was an effort to save salary cap space and the team allowed Beasley to seek a trade prior to the release.

The soon-to-be 33-year-old was signed by the Bills in 2019 as an unrestricted free agent. He helped the Bills offense and quarterback Josh Allen as a safety blanket for underneath routes.

Despite being released almost one month ago, Beasley has yet to find a landing spot in the NFL, as he’s still an unrestricted free agent.

One might wonder if Beasley’s stance on the COVID-19 vaccine and social media posts from last summer had something to do with it, but in reality, they’re actually a more likely reason why he or other wide receivers have yet to sign.

Daniel Jeremiah of The NFL Network brought up a great point as to why many wide receivers have yet to find a new team.

The NFL Draft is only two weeks away now. Why would a team pay a veteran a sizable cap hit for one or two years, when they can draft a wide receiver on a rookie draft for much cheaper (rookie contract) and have a 4-5 year commitment guaranteed?

That is the likely reason why Beasley has yet to sign. His age is also a concern I’m sure. I think he will end up signing this spring or summer but teams rather have a rookie on a cheaper contract for what could be the same or even better production.
