In the first ever meeting between Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel, last year's top two NHL draft picks, McDavid clearly was the better player.  McDavid scored both goals for the Edmonton Oilers in a 2-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres in overtime on Tuesday night.

McDavid needed only 22 seconds to open the scoring when he found himself wide open against Buffalo goaltender Robin Lehner and easily put the puck in the net.  And it stayed 1-0 until midway thru the third period when Cal O'Reilly scored off a pass from Sam Reinhart to tie the game.

The game went to overtime where after the Oilers were stopped on a power play, Eichel had a chance to win it on one end and McDavid went the other way and scored unassisted to give Edmonton the victory.

Although Eichel had a couple of other scoring opportunities his only footnote on the scoresheet was the high sticking penalty he took in the second period.

The Sabres remain at home to host Calgary on Thursday night.
