Happy Dyngus Day! To many people in Buffalo's Polish community, today is one of the most important days of the year. Dyngus Day is always the Monday after Easter. It's a day when Polish people take time to celebrate that Jesus has risen and that the sacrifices of the Lenten season are over with. It is also a day to celebrate Polish pride. According to local Dyngus Day organizer, Marty Biniasz, there will be over 50 official Dyngus day parties happening today throughout Western New York. These parties will feature Polish food, Polish beer and Polish music. You may also see people squirting each other with squirt guns and people tapping each other with pussy willows as signs of affection. Marty also went on to say that in addition, there will be many private Dyngus Day celebrations as well including many workplace celebrations.
