Hockey is back for the first time today, and this year, every Sabres' assist will help out first responders in Buffalo through the 100 Club of Buffalo.

We have been waiting a very long time for hockey season to come back.  Even though, we will have to wait for our Sabres until tomorrow, as hockey fans, we wait no longer. Hockey is back.

This year, when the Sabres score with an assist, they will be helping to support first responders with a $25 donation to the 100 Club of Buffalo from National Grid.

According to WIVB, the 100 Club of Buffalo has helped to provide financial assistance to families of police officers killed in the line of duty. They have also provided awards, scholarships and educational assistance to first responders and their families.

“National Grid appreciates the dedication of our first responders, and when the Sabres score, the Teamwork for Safety program will prompt a celebration that extends beyond the ice. That’s because it recognizes the ultimate team players in our communities, those who selflessly and tirelessly step up and put the needs of others ahead of their own, each and every day.” -  National Grid Regional Director Ken Kujawa.

The Sabres had 314 assists in the 2019-2020 season. If my math is correct, that's over $7,500 that would be donated to the 100 Club if they even just matched what happened on the ice last year. The season this year will be an abbreviated one.  Of course, Sabres fans have higher hopes than what happened last year, so hopefully their total donated would be even higher.

They will start their new season tomorrow night at 7pm at home against the Washington Capitals.
