Fire investigators in the Town of Tonawanda are looking into the cause of a house fire Thursday night that claimed the life of an 8-year old boy.  Volunteer firefighters were called to 116 Sunset Terrace in the town's North Green Acres neighborhood but when they arrived they were pushed back by intense heat and flames.

The Chief of the Brighton Volunteer Fire Company said they were unable to find anyone inside on their initial search.  Within minutes of their arrival the house flashed over and was fully involved.

The Sweet Home Central School District issued a statement this morning revealing the victim of the fire was a 3rd grade student at Glendale Elementary School, just a short distance away.

Superintendent Anthony J. Day wrote; "It is with profound sadness that I write this letter to let you know that one of our Glendale Elementary students was lost in a house fire yesterday – October 18th.  Our sincere condolences and thoughts go out to the family and friends of our student. During this time as the school community processes the tragic news and copes with grief, the school district will offer counseling and bereavement support services to all of our students and staff at Glendale."
