Sheridan Drive between Colvin and Delaware Road in the Town of Tonawanda will be closed the next two nights for removal of the pedestrian bridge spanning Sheridan Drive.  Crews will work from 10 pm to 6 am each night.  Sheridan Drive is expected to be open to traffic for the morning rush.

The bridge was erected in the early 1960's to provide access to the Hoover School and the old Delaware Pool, but Town of Tonawanda Superintendent Joe Emminger says it's outlived its usefulness.  Emminger also says it was rarely used in recent years.

The bridge was closed to pedestrian traffic almost two years ago when it was deemed unsafe.  Since then the decision for the town has been whether to repair it, replace it or tear it down.  Since it was rarely used the town decided to remove it.
