Hot Dog Stands In Western New York With The Best Foot Long Hot Dogs
Spring is officially here. It's the time of year when we don't know if it's going to be 30 or 65 degrees out, but it's also the time to start thinking about hitting up hot dog stands!
I was scrolling through X today when I came across this tasty-looking dog.
It came out around St. Patrick's day and was themed to have those pastrami and reuben vibes. It got me thinking about all of the places here in Western New York where you can go to get a really great hot dog.
Sahlen's Hot Dogs are popular in Buffalo
Of course, Sahlen's hot dogs tend to rule the roost here in Western New York. Wardynski is another very popular brand, and people are on both sides of the fence for them like they are for Pepsi/Coke and Chevy/Ford. There's just nothing like the distinctive snap you get when biting into one that has been sitting on a charcoal grill for just the right amount of time.
Ted's is probably one of the most popular spots to get them in Buffalo. But there are a ton of places with some very creative dogs on their menu.
The Foot Long Was Created Here In Western New York
You can't really talk about footlong hot dogs, though, without mentioning Louie's in Tonawanda. Legend has it that Louie wanted something to set himself apart from the rest of the hot dog stands that were popping up along Sheridan Drive, and so he contracted out with Sahlen's to create a hot dog that was 12 inches long.
It was something that worked for 70 years for them. Unfortunately, they closed down in 2021, but the footlong hot dog lives on. Here are some great places to get one (and other specialty hot dogs) in Western New York!
