Gov. Hochul Says to Have Fun This Holiday Season, If You’re Vaccinated

Now that we're in the third week of September, many people are looking forward to the fall and even taking a peek ahead at the upcoming 2021 holiday season.

Last year's holiday season was certainly a different one across New York State, as many restrictions and uncertainty about the pandemic have people worried about family gatherings and even holding off on traditions until next year.

On Wednesday, New York Governor Kathy Hochul discussed the upcoming holiday season, which is just two months away, and made recommendations about family gatherings.

“I would encourage people to have these celebrations, have fun if you are vaccinated and that is the big difference,” said Hochul. “If you are vaccinated, these should be safe occurrences.”

Hochul mentioned that more people will be indoors during the colder weather and with family gatherings taking place during the holidays, she does not want a repeat of the spike in COVID-19 numbers that happened one year ago. She asks people to encourage family and friends who are unvaccinated, to get the vaccine.

Hochul also announced that masks are now required at all New York child care and daycare centers and facilities. Children under 12 cannot, as of yet, get a vaccine shot.

Along with that, Hochul also announced that she has directed the New York State Department of Health to allow basic EMTs to administer vaccines moving forward.

Here in Western New York, those attending future games and events at both Highmark Stadium and KeyBank Center must be vaccinated; with at least one dose done between now and October 31st, and be fully vaccinated after that. This is for all those ages 12 and over. Children under 12 must wear masks.
