The next time you shop at a Target store in Western New York, things may look a little different.

According to recent reports, Target Corporation is making a major change at stores across the country, and it will affect locations here in New York State.

Stores Are Already Preparing for the Next Season

This is the time of year when many retailers are transitioning from their spring collections to summer merchandise. In fact, during a recent shopping trip, I noticed some stores were already displaying fall items.

Autumn decorations have started appearing at retailers like Hobby Lobby. Stores are constantly trying to stay ahead of the competition and capture shoppers’ attention with the latest seasonal trends.

If you’re still looking for spring items to enjoy with your family, you may already be running out of luck, at least when it comes to shopping in traditional brick-and-mortar stores.

Target Corporation Rolling Out 500,000 New Shopping Carts

While merchandise may be changing with the seasons, the way you shop inside Target Corporation may soon change as well.

According to the New York Post, Target Corporation plans to replace many of its current shopping carts with a redesigned model aimed at making the shopping experience easier and more convenient.

Reports indicate that approximately 500,000 new shopping carts will be delivered to stores nationwide.

"The upgraded carts are designed to hold more items, roll smoother and maneuver more easily through stores.".

Why New Shopping Carts Are Welcome News

Every shopper knows the frustration of picking a cart that is soaking wet, filled with trash, or equipped with a wobbly wheel that squeaks and makes steering difficult.

For families with young children, finding the right cart can be even more challenging.

As a parent of four kids under the age of 10, I know firsthand how difficult a quick shopping trip can become. Many times, we end up using two carts—one for the groceries and one for the kids.

And of course, there is always the competition over the oversized race car-style carts found at many big-box stores. Maneuvering one of those through the snack aisle can feel like driving an 18-wheeler through downtown Buffalo.

A Better Shopping Experience for Families

Whether you’re making a quick stop for a few items or doing a full shopping trip for a family of six, the right cart can make a huge difference.

Target Corporation appears to be putting customer convenience directly in its bull’s-eye.

Shopping Cart Etiquette Every New Yorker Should Know

There is one simple rule every shopper should follow: return your cart when you’re finished.

After unloading your purchases into your vehicle, take a moment to place the cart in the designated return area.

It’s a small gesture that helps store employees, keeps parking lots organized, and prevents carts from rolling into and damaging parked vehicles.

New York State Has a Shopping Cart Law

An interesting side note: New York State has laws that prohibit people from removing shopping carts from the property where they were obtained.

Taking a cart off store property can result in legal consequences and may be considered theft.

When Will Western New York Targets Get the New Carts?

There is no official word yet on when Target Corporation stores in Western New York, including locations in Buffalo, Amherst, and Orchard Park, will receive the new shopping carts.

However, with the nationwide rollout underway, shoppers in New York State will likely start seeing them in stores sometime soon.
