It was a very scary, traumatic off season for Rasmus Dahlin, the star Buffalo Sabres defenseman.

Dahlin wrote a letter to fans and the Buffalo community that the Buffalo Sabres shared on social media late Friday morning to explain the traumatic experience of his fiancee, Carolina, getting sick, being on life support and getting a new heart.

Over the off season his fiance has major heart failure and needed a heart transplant while they were vacationing over in France. Dahlin noted that Carolina also needed CPR many times and sometimes for many hours. Currently she is not here in Buffalo as he gets ready for the upcoming NHL season with preseason starting next week.

"Fortunately she received CPR on multiple occasions and up to a couple hours at a time to keep her alive which ultimately saved her life. Without her receiving life-saving CPR, the result would have been unimaginable. It is hard to even think about the worst case scenario", he wrote.

Dahlin goes on to explain that his fiancé actually was on life support for the time and she waited to find a heart transplant for her.

It is amazing to see all the support that the Buffalo community has shown him in just a couple of minutes since he has posted their experience. The Buffalo Sabres kick off their season with a preseason game against the Columbus Blue Jackets in Columbus at 7 PM. The Sabres will return on Tuesday night to play their first preseason game at home at Key Bank Center.
