It seems all too frequent lately that a massive vehicle recall is throwing a wrench into our plans. Serious safety issues in certain Honda, Harley Davidson, and Nissan models have resulted in major recalls in the past few months.

Considering so many of us rely on our cars to transport ourselves and our loved ones, recalls can be scary. Not to mention the major inconvenience of needing to get the issue repaired before you can drive your car again.

Now, another huge recall will affect several popular vehicles in New York State, and yours could be one of them. Before hitting the road, be sure to see if your vehicle is one of them for the safety of your family and friends.

Massive Hyundai & Kia Recall Across New York State

The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration warns that over 20 different car and SUV models of Hyundai and Kia vehicles are being recalled due to a serious safety issue, affecting thousands of drivers across New York State.

On these vehicles, a defective anti-lock brake (ABS) module or hydraulic electronic control unit (HECU) could potentially cause an electrical short. This could lead the engine to catch on fire while driving or even while parked.

This isn’t the first time this year Hyundai and Kia owners have been affected by a recall. In fact, just last month, nearly 100,000 makes and models from the brand were pulled off the road because of a similar issue.

How Do You Know If Your Car Is Affected By The Hyundai & Kia Recall?

Kia will mail a letter notifying owners of the affected vehicles beginning November 14th, and Hyundai will send their letters out November 21st.  However, if you’re a Hyundai or Kia driver who wants to check sooner, you can search using your car’s VIN number on the NHTSA website, call the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or contact Hyundai or Kia’s customer service.

What To Do If Your Hyundai Or Kia Is Recalled

If your vehicle is indeed one of the ones with the ABS or HECU, both dealers will inspect and replace them free of charge.

In the meantime, both manufacturers advise parking your car and SUV outside and away from any structures or buildings in case the vehicle catches fire.
