It was a setting we have not seen all season in Buffalo for Sabres games…excitement and energy.

That was because Thursday night was the return of former Sabres captain, Jack Eichel.

Eichel spent six seasons with the Sabres after being drafted 2nd overall in the 2015 NHL Draft. Eichel was nearly a point-per-game player in that time and clearly the Sabres best player.

Eichel was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights in early November for Peyton Krebs, Alex Tuch, a top 10-protected first round pick and a second round pick.

Eichel and Vegas played against the Sabres at KeyBank Center in an arena attendance of over 12,000 fans.

The Sabres won the game 3-1 and in a sweet twist of fate, two of the Sabres three goals came from Krebs and Tuch.

The crowd was really into it at KeyBank Center as fans both booed and cheered Eichel during the game, but the boos were very noticeable.

More of a story than the Sabres win were the quotes from Eichel to the media after the game. Eichel sounded extremely bitter and dare you say, petty as he took a snarky shot at Sabres fans.

The video is pretty incredible.

Eichel said he wants to move on but it’s hard to tell if that’s the case after those comments.

Eichel is not getting love on Twitter from Sabres fans to say the least. I’m sure that he will get even more boos now when he visits the KeyBank Center again.
