Sometimes bad things happen to good people. Matt Perillo is a close friend of mine. He’s a longtime high school football and basketball official who came down with a serious bacterial blood infection back in January. It nearly cost him his life, but it so badly affected blood circulation in his legs they had to be amputated.

But Matt has an incredible spirit and he’s battling back. He’s been fitted with prosthetics and Friday night in an emotional moment he walked out to the middle of the football field at West Seneca West High School to handle the coin flip duties prior to West’s game against Lancaster.

Matt graduated from West Seneca West and is now a resident of Lancaster, so there was a lot of symbolism in the game and Matt’s continued recovery. Organizers of Matt Perillo Night at West Seneca West made a donation to the New Shoes For Matt fund to help pay for the astronomical cost of his therapy and recovery.

Best wishes, Matt Perillo.
