The new year is already a month old and, for some, that means a busy tax filing season is here in New York State. There is some vital information for those who are eager to file their taxes and get that refund in New York State.

As inflation and interest rates crippled our wallets and bank accounts in 2023, you may have been looking forward to a big payday after you file. There are some companies that will give you an advance on your expected refund, for a specified fee. Beware of scams if you plan on going this route.

But the filing season is here and there are some important dates to keep in mind for when you can start to file.

The filing window for your Federal taxes begins on January 29th.

For those who choose to file as early as possible to get the refund, the best option is most likely direct deposit. New York State makes it easy to get the refund sent to your bank account.
