Scary Disease Found In New York State Water?
There are reports that measles has been detected in wastewater in at least one New York State city. The good news is that most are vaccinated against the disease, and an outbreak is not likely.
Wastewater is constantly being tested, and recently, there were reports that an uptick in COVID-19 had been seen. But this time, measles is front and center. Oswego County residents are being warned following the discovery of traces of measles in wastewater. In a warning that was posted online for residents, it was noted that there are no current cases.
"The City of Oswego's Wastewater Treatment Plant has detected the presence of the measles virus in local wastewater. While no cases have been confirmed at this time, this detection is a serious warning sign that the virus may be circulating in our community".
If you are a parent of young kids, I am sure that you are always reminding your kids to cover their coughs, use tissues, and wash their hands. I know that I am saying this to our kids for what feels like a million times a day!
