Another casualty of this year's pandemic is CanalFest of the Tonawandas, normally held this week... CANCELLED due to Covid-19 concerns and restrictions.  We'll be missing the live music, tug of war, midway games, rides, the parade, duck race, fireworks, and more local events that are staples of the celebration.

But according to The Niagara Reporter to soften the blow, Jesse Gooch, the owner or Painter's Plus Home Decorating is bringing your favorite fair food to residents of the Tonawandas. He will have stands are set up at 800 Walck Road, North Tonawanda from 11 am-6 pm every day this week.

Here's some more info on the reason for cancelling this year...

The decision to cancel was made first and foremost for the safety of the thousands that would have attended each day/night of Canal Fest and was one that did not come lightly.  Cancellation of the event impacts over 50 non-profit organizations and civic groups of the community that make up the participating members. Many of these member organizations solely rely on Canal Fest to raise funds that support and sustain projects that reinvest approximately $250,000 back into the community each year.

The cancellation also jeopardizes their ability to continue servicing the Cities of North Tonawanda and Tonawanda.

Organizers are looking into the possibility of a Fall Festival of some sort to help fill the void canceling Canal Fest has left.

This year would have been the 38th Annual Canal Fest and was one of the longest-running festivals in all of WNY. You can go to canalfest.org for event updates and announcements.
